“People do not decide their futures; they decide their habits, and their habits decide their futures.” — F. M. Alexander

🌌 Daily Reflection

Ah yes. Habits.

Those cute little things everyone pretends are about discipline, when really they’re trauma in a trench coat.

Procrastinating?

Perfectionism?

Overworking?

Shutting down?

Over-giving until you resent everyone and then feel guilty for resenting them?

Congratulations. You’re not lazy. You’re adaptive.

Most of your habits weren’t chosen. They were installed.

By childhood.

By chaos.

By emotionally unavailable humans who taught your nervous system,

“Figure it out yourself, kid.”

So now you’ve got parts of you running around like:

“If we do it perfectly, maybe they’ll love us.”

“If we stay busy, no one can hurt us.”

“If we go numb, we won’t feel the loss.”

“If we give enough, maybe they won’t leave.”

And everyone else is like,

“Have you tried just changing your habits?”

Oh sure. Let me just uninstall my entire survival operating system.

Here’s the truth nobody puts on a mug:

Your habits aren’t the problem.

They were the solution.

They just haven’t gotten the memo that it’s 2025 and you’re not seven anymore.

Even your inner critic?

That jerk is just a scared kid with a megaphone.

And don’t get me started on the whole “try harder” narrative.

Luke didn’t beat Vader by doing more push-ups.

He won by facing his shadow and choosing love over armor.

Meanwhile, we’re out here trying to heal by buying planners.

Your patterns aren’t flaws.

They’re old protectors with outdated missions.

They kept you alive.

But they don’t get to run the galaxy forever.

Healing isn’t about erasing them.

It’s about looking at them and saying,

“Hey
thanks for not letting me die.

But I’ve got this now.”

That’s how you rewrite the stars.

Not with shame.

Not with hustle.

But with compassion and a little less self-hatred.

💭 Thought for the Day

Your habits aren’t proof you’re broken.

They’re proof you survived.

🖋 Reflection Questions

  1. Which habit in your life screams “I learned this in childhood”?

  2. What do you think that part was trying to protect you from?

  3. How could you thank it—and gently take the wheel today?

🌀 Quote “I find your lack of regulation
disturbing.” — Not Darth Vader, but probably your therapist 🌌 Daily Reflection Ah yes—the end of the month.
